REMEMBERING HIS LIFE

He made everyone feel valued, seen, and heard.

Alex Mathew (September 11, 1971 – February 11, 2025) was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Born in Adoor, Kerala, he moved to Bangalore in 1982 for schooling at Bishop Cottons Boys School and later to California in 1990, earning a business degree from Vanguard University and an MBA from National University.

Read His Story

In 1999, he married Annie in Oklahoma, and together they built a loving home. In 2006, they welcomed Gabriel, and in 2009, Hope, whom he adored. A faithful servant of God, Alex was the Administrator/Finance leader at Metro Church of God, instrumental in its growth.

A mentor and coach, he poured into the younger generation, coaching Gabe and Hope’s basketball teams and guiding many. Known for his selflessness, leadership, and passion for bringing people together, he was the glue of every community he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Annie, children Gabe & Hope, parents John & Grace Mathew, brother Jose (Shaji) Mathew, and extended family in Dallas, Oklahoma, and India.

Alex lived a life of faith, love, and service. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace Alex until we are all reunited with Jesus and our loved ones.

Tall, athletic, and endlessly warm, Alex’s radiant smile could light up any room. This is how I will always remember him from our days at Bishop Cotton—a genuine soul whose kindness and warmth left a lasting mark on everyone he met.

Annie, Gabe, and Hope, my heart aches for you in this time of profound loss. Words feel inadequate in moments like these, but please know that Alex was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him. May the beautiful memories you shared bring you comfort, and may you find strength in the love that surrounds you now and always.

Alex and me were rivals in school. It wasn’t sports , it certainly wasn’t academics!!

Reason - we both liked the same girl 😏 !!! That crush / rivalry started in the 9th and went on right through past our ICSE exams. I remember during the socials, we kept cutting each other while we were dancing with the lass in question.

Alex and me had a mutual respect for each others and each others“dashing looks” - though it didn’t help either of us win the trophy - this did however give both of us a memory and has made Alex unforgettable in my mind 😀for ever !!!

The amount we have laughed over this at all out reunions !!!

You d man Alex —

Reji Chachen was one of the kindest souls I’ve ever known. I’m shaking as I write this, trying to process it all. He was so precious to us and to his family. I can’t believe I’m typing “was.”

His love for Jesus was undeniable. The way he and Annie Chech loved each other was something I deeply admired and hoped for in my own marriage with Stan. He was so devoted to his kids—so proud of them, and he loved them with all his heart. My heart absolutely breaks for them and the rest of our family.

From the moment I married into this family, they welcomed me with open arms. Reji Chachen took intentional time to know me and to spend time with us. We are all heartbroken. Absolutely crushed.

Yes, we will see him again.

Yes, we have hope that God will bring purpose from this pain.

Yes, we know God will never forsake us.

But right now, this hurts so much. We love you Reji Chachen 😭😭

We love you so much Annie Chech, Gabe and Hope

We have no words but we promise to be here for you. I am so so sorry 💔😭🫂

Alex and I were friends in school. Good friends - but not inseparable. There are moments that I remember - a smile, a class, a dare, a conversation. Good friends. And then we went our separate lives and we would have been living in isolated countries and universes - but he reached out. And amazingly his warmth came through over a messaging service. Always kind- always positive - always helpful. Amazingly his goodness brought us closer - his kindness overcame social media’s impersonal character. We conversed frequently. I could hear his laughter in typed characters - and when he went to India - he reached out and asked me if I could come down. Getting all the classmates together. I wish I had done so- I didn’t and so all I have are some lovely messages and an overwhelming sense of regret balanced with goodness that he exuded. His loss just feels unfair. Why take him so young. May his soul rest in peace and may he look over his family and friends. You will be missed….

The image of Alex will always be with me, from my cottonian days to recently as 3 week ago, when he consoled me on my brother's passing. This was after so many years after our school days!

I wish we could have met up in Cottons as we discussed. Alex, "You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith" Rip, Strength to Annie, Gabbe, Hope,. ..we will miss him!

The image of Alex is his beautiful smile, his demeanor was always positive, and he was one of the most genuine and generous people I met.

I’ve known Alex since high school days and it always amazed me how unwavering he was in his ability to stay in touch with so many people. When I first moved to the US, he would call and make sure I was ok and wasn’t lonely or if I needed anything. All the little ways that added up to so much.

He loved his life, spoke so lovingly about Annie, Gabe, and Hope. I feel your loss. I wish you strength as you go through this dark time. I hope you get the space to grieve and also to celebrate Alex.
